As we age, the levels of hyaluronic acid falls – this is a substance found naturally in the skins which helps with retention of water and overall hydration of the skin. As sebaceous glands become less active, the skin becomes drier. The skin also loses subcutaneous fat so it looks less plump and smooth than when we were young.
