Periodontology is the area of dentistry concerned with the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. Periodontal (gum) disease is a very common condition that often remains undiagnosed. As it is usually a painless condition, presentation is often late with recurrent infections and loose teeth being the presenting problems.If diagnosed early, the treatment can be relatively straightforward with prevention being the primary objective. Good oral hygiene and regular visits for a scale and polish are essential for a positive outcome.
