Ear Correction
Prominent ears (sometimes known as bat ears) can be a source of
embarrassment particularly for young people although all ages can
be affected. They can be corrected either under local or general
anaesthesia. There are several techniques that can produce very
pleasing results. The surgery involves reshaping of the cartilage
of the ear. An inconspicuous incision is made in the natural crease
behind the ear. Surgery is carried out as a day case. A bandage
maybe needed for a few days postoperatively.
Your consultants will give impartial advice and have a thorough
discussion with you on the nature of the surgery, and your
suitability for ear correction. You will be fully informed about
the implications of having this operation including the limitations
of the technique, the position of the scars and any possible
short-term or long-term complication. The final decision to have
surgery is your own personal choice.
